المقدمه
~ The Current Condition ~
Oman has been experiencing a rapid urban and economic growth that poses different challenges for the current system of governance. These new urban challenges require specialization in transportation, urban design, economic planning, zoning and more to keep pace with the residents’ needs, which are currently lacking locally. A few consulting firms from across the world provide these services, with very limited knowledge about the local context of Oman. Therefore it is a clear signal that a local presence of studied and professional inputs from the viewpoint of the inhabitants is needed to support the planning process and projects on the ground.

التوسع العمراني والاقتصادي السريع لعمان في العقود الماضية أصبح يشكل تحديات واضحة على السير العمل في النظام الحكومي لتوفير الخدمات الأساسية للقاطنين في المدن. هذه التحديات العمرانية تطلب خبراء مختصين في تخطيط النقل, التخطيط العمراني، التخطيط الاقتصادي، والتخطيط الاجتماعي الذين يصعب ايجادهم في عمان لتحقيق تطلعات سكان المدن المتزايد.
هنالك شركات استشارية عالمية قليله في عمان قادرة على توفير هذه الخدمات ولكن بمعرفة محدوده جدا بالمجتمع المحلي و خصوصياته الذي يؤكد على الحاجه الماسه للخبرات العمانيه أو المحلية لمساندة المشاريع التخطيطية الوطنية لخدمة أبناء هذا الوطن الغالي.

~ What is Urban Ethnography ~
Ethnography is a research methodology developed and used in various social sciences, such as anthropology and sociology. Nowadays ethnography is as much used to study societies and the research methods have evolved from participant observation to include more interaction, conversation and co-creation.
Urban ethnography delivers results that inform and inspire planning processes. Urban ethnographers are design thinkers who firmly understand the planning process and can provide critical information for use by project teams decision-makers and other stakeholders.
~ ما هو التخطيط الإثنوغرافي ~
الإثنوغرافيا هو علم يعنى بدراسة الإنسان و طريقة عيشه الاجتماعية في بيئة معينة تحكمها عادات و تقاليد و أعراف معينة محدودة بجغرافية المكان. ومن المهم أن نذكر أن هذا العلم أصبح يستخدم في مجالات كثيرة الصناعات وغيرها لفهم حاجة الفرد المستهدف.
في مجال التخطيط العمراني والحضري أصبح علم الاثنوغرافيا ذو اهميه بالغه لتحديد سير عملية التخطيط و مساعدة صناع القرار لوضع خطط تنفيذية أقرب لحاجات الناس. المخططون الاثنوغرافييون لديهم القدرة على تحويل هذه الملاحظات الإنسانية إلى بيانات رقمية ومعلومات صالح للاستعمال لدى أفراد المشروع ، صناع القرار،
وأصحاب الصلة من الهيئات و المؤسسات لدعم القرارات التي تنصب في خدمة المقيمين والوطن بشكل فعال.
